I bought this as a Christmas present gift for a loved one who travels often and it was a hit. His peace of mind is my piece of mind.
I love this bag and it has been everywhere with me and still performs really well apart from one issue. The metalwork around the where the zip tabs fasten has somewhat corroded. The metalwork has a green residue where the metal has corroded and this will not come out making the bag look tatty. This may be doe to being near sea splashes at some point but not sustained but nevertheless this should not happen.

The green residue you’re seeing is most likely verdigris (copper-based oxidation), which can develop when metal components are exposed to sea air, salt spray, or splashes. Even brief contact with saltwater or salty humidity can leave microscopic salt deposits on the metal. These deposits attract moisture, accelerating corrosion and causing the greenish film to form over time.
How to clean it gently:
Wipe away salt residues first: Lightly dampen a soft cloth with fresh water and wipe the metal to remove surface salt. Pat dry thoroughly.
Treat the verdigris: Use a soft cloth with a mild solution (e.g., white vinegar diluted 1:1 with water) and gently rub the affected area. Avoid soaking or letting liquid pool near fabric.
Rinse & dry: Wipe with a cloth lightly dampened with clean water to remove any cleaner residue. Dry completely.
Optional protection: Apply a thin layer of neutral wax (e.g., microcrystalline wax) or a metal-safe anti-corrosion spray to the hardware, following product instructions. Buff lightly to create a protective barrier.
