Sustainability

Our mission at Pacsafe is to protect what’s valuable.
And, nothing is more valuable than the planet we travel.

We want our world to stay pristine to inspire future generations of travelers to come. That’s why together with our community we’re pushing for positive change through positive actions.

The below initiatives help reduce ocean plastic and the impact it has on the environment.

Making an impact on this huge problem takes prevention and cleaning.

Not only does Pacsafe work to prevent plastic from entering our oceans, we also are working to clean up existing plastic in the ocean.

Recycling Plastic Water Bottles

Over 50 Billion plastic bottles are made each year, with 91% of them ending up in landfill, or the ocean.

Using recycled polyester helps combat this waste, reduces our dependence on crude oil, reduces fresh water used in the production chain, and reduces CO2 and other gas emissions.

Our rPET is made from recycled plastic water bottles, following The Global Recycle Standard. All Pacsafe new bags use either rPET, ECONYL, or other Blue Sign Approved materials, meaning more plastic being given a new life and less finding it’s way into our oceans.

Collection

Washing, and sorting of plastic waste.

Resizing

Consists of shredding the plastic waste into small particles.

Compounding

The small particles are smashed and melted together into plastic pellets.

Spinning

The recycled plastic pellets into yarn that’s used to weave fabric.

Discarded fishing nets

Discarded fishing nets pose a major risk for turtles and other marine life that become entangled in them. Our Pacsafe x ECONYL bags use discarded fishing nets and other plastic waste to make the best anti-theft bags.
We use regenerated fiber equal in quality to brand new nylon combined with features and organization to help people explore the world with confidence that their gear (and the planet) is covered.

Removing all Virgin Plastic

We’ve pledged to get rid of all virgin plastic from our supply chain by 2025. Every new Pacsafe design is being made in recycled materials and popular existing designs are also in the process of being reworked using sustainable fabrics. In 2020 we’re switching all of our packaging, swing tags and display materials to be made from FSC Certified recycled card.

Further out, we’re working with suppliers to eliminate plastic packaging during shipping where possible, or replacing it with recycled options. It’s a long journey, but we’ll get there step-by-step one meaningful change at a time.
